A Rich History: The Colony Inn & Sanibel Island
The Colony Inn has been a part of Sanibel’s hospitality history since the 1960s, originally developed as a small group of island cottages that welcomed vacationers looking to unwind in paradise. Though completely renovated today, The Colony Inn still embodies the relaxed, friendly spirit that made it a Sanibel staple for generations of returning guests.
Located just minutes from the Sanibel Lighthouse, the Colony Inn sits on the historic east end, where many of the island’s earliest visitors arrived by ferry before the causeway was built. The lighthouse, completed in 1884, remains a beloved symbol of the island’s heritage and is a short walk from the Inn.
